"Well, the Sitar feels like a daunting instrument at first because there are so many strings, so many frets. Just teaching your hand where to go can be totally intimidating but never fear there are building block exercises that will lead you on the way to proficiency. First, I am going to demonstrate in major scale. I am going to play all the notes on the neck that you can produce starting on the second string. We usually play mostly this string. But we also play this string. But commonly we’ll start here. When you first start practicing this you must play much slower. Giving equal weight to your Dah and Rah strokes on your right hand and pressing with your left finger so that there is a fluidity. And keeping your thumb low on the neck. People have a tendency to try to grasp it."
