"First of all that I want to say Raga is the melodic framework in Indian music. And Raga is less specific than a song but more specific than a scale. It is based on a scale; a succession of five, six or seven notes ascending and descending and they can be different ascending than descending. And, particular phrases using those notes and the ascending and descending notes don’t have to be in succession, you can skip. So for example, a very popular evening Raga is called Khamaj and the Ras or mood is romantic. The scale is: and certain phrases you can pick."
