Minor Chords & Seventh Chords in Piano Sheet Music

"Hello! I am Annie Brunson on behalf of Expert Village. Today we’re going to learn about other types of chords, other than major chords. We’re going to learn about minor chords and seventh chords. The 2 other chords you will commonly find in guitar notation are minor chord and a seventh chord. We started off learning about C major chord. Now let’s learn the A minor chord. The A minor chord, has 2 notes between the first triad and 3 notes between the next 2 notes. It’s almost like an inversion of a major chord, you have 2 and 3. So an A minor, for example, sounds like this. D minor would have one-two notes between these triads and 3 notes between these 2 notes. For example, if we started on a D flat, it would have 2 notes and then 3 notes. Now, a seventh… You might see a seventh chord. For example, let’s take a C chord. We learned that the G was the fifth chord. If we go with our 1- 4- 5 progression. Normally, you will find a seventh on that fifth chord. So in the key of C, a fifth chord was the G chord. You add a seventh to that it is F. It is not F sharp because we are still on the key of C and C does not have any sharps. So it is a whole tone lower than the G at the top. For example, if I wanted to find D seven, I play the D, and then it will be a whole tone lower than the D at the top, a D7. "
