"Hello! My name is Aaron Moon and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com. For a harsher sound you can tighten up your grip a little with the pick as opposed to holding it like that. You can kind of move it up like this and hold it a little more rigid against the strings, apply a little more pressure. It gives a firmer grip to the pick. Now so far I have been just strumming chords, both with the down stroke and up stroke. Another useful aspect of the pick is playing single notes with it. Now you can do that with just a down stroke and an up stroke. At the beginning of the first down stroke, you could hear that; it was kind of muffled. It’s another use for using a pick to kind of have a muffle sound and a choppier sound. You can move around from string to string. So you can really move around from the low strings to the high strings and its good for playing melodies with a pick, solos are played with picks. So that is the difference between finger picking and using a pick. Hope it’s of some use to you and we’ll look to see you back here at expertvillage.com."
