" Hello! My name is Aaron Moon and I am with you here today on behalf of expertvillage.com and I am discussing the steel string acoustic guitar. I would like to go over the difference between finger picking and flat picking. So first we will start with the finger picking. It is a technique used to play the guitar that is exactly what the name says. It is using your fingers to pick the strings. Now to start off usually your thumb will be playing the lower strings; that’s just how it lays naturally and the other fingers will be picking the higher strings. Now with the thumb you are going to be playing the string on the outer part of your thumb, so kind of plucking it like that; plucking the A like that. Your other fingers you can use 3 or 4; it’s kind of up to the player as to how many you use. They are going to come up on the bottom of the stream and you are going to be picking upwards as opposed to downwards with your thumb. Like that. Now if you put those together you can go; doesn’t really sound all that great but they are just open strings. If you put a chord with that, it will sound something like, like that."
