Series Summary

Salsa is a Latin dance and musical style that was introduced to the United States during the Cuban and Puerto Rican immigration, between the 1940s and the 1970s. There is some debate as to the origins of salsa, but the rhythm is a fusion of traditional African and Cuban and other Latin-American rhythms, including the Mambo and the Rumba. Salsa dancing is one of the most popular dances worldwide, and because the rules of the dance allow for a lot of creative improvisation, many different styles have developed, including Miami style, Puerto Rican style, New York style, L.A. style and Cuban style.

In these free salsa dance lessons on video, learn some steps in the Miami style of salsa dancing. These basic dance steps include the salsa stance, side rocks, back rocks, turns, cross body leads, the adios, outside turns, enchufla and more. Now you have no more excuses not to get out on the dance floor, shake your groove thing and enjoy some hot salsa music and latin dance.

on 8/2/2008 Best salsa series I've seen on here. For me black shoes/pants against black floor made it hard to see feet sometimes at this quality.

Video Transcript

" Welcome to Miami! This is Salsa Mia at Yuka Lounge on South Beach. My name is Susan and this is Alex. We’re going to show you the basic steps of salsa. You can find us on the web at salsamia.com. On behalf of expertvillage.com, we welcome you. We’re going to start with you first basic. Before we get started I’m going to tell you the way you should stand before you start dancing. As you can see our feet are together and looking forward and I have my hands up. Okay. Now, when you dance salsa, you could think about it like marching. You never use the same food twice and you keep your hands up. Now, what we’re going to do after every 3 counts you’re always going to come back to our starting position. The first basic, all we’re going to do is left, right, together. Then we’re going to go right, left, together. As you can see, every time we take a count, the first thing you see is my knee. So once again, you go left, right, together, and right, left, together. One more time, 1, 2, 3, back, 2, 3, forward, 2, 3, back, 2, and 3. "
