Video: Canon EOS 40D: Monitoring Brightness

Ok, let's talk about setting the brightness on your LCD monitor on the back of your camera. This is the, the LCD screen here on the back of the Canon D. To activate the screen I'm going to go ahead and press menu, the menu button on the top left side of the camera. Now we're in the menu here and I can scroll through with my main control dial to the second settings menu here with a wrench. There is a wrench, kind of looks like a tool with two dots on it and it's a yellow, yellow icon and that's the menu I want and I'm going to scroll up here with the quick control dial to LCD brightness and, and select that. Now it takes me to an image from my memory card and right now I've got the LCD brightness set to its brightest setting at number 7 and what I can do is while looking at that image see what looks most appropriate and the thing you want to be careful about with this LCD brightness is that sometimes it's kind of tricky to tell what kind of exposure you got by changing the brightness on this LCD display but usually something in the range from, from 5 to 7 is what I use. Maybe not the brightest because it takes a lot of battery to make the screen that bright but it might be worth it if you're in a very well lit, outdoor setting to see what's going on, on your LCD screen, but once you select a brightness that looks pretty good to you, I'm going to go ahead and stick with number 6 there, on the brightness level and then I'm going to, to set that brightness I'm just going to press set meaning ok, I like that brightness. I'm going to set that and you can see in my LCD brightness menu here that the indicator has dropped down from the very brightest to one below that at 6, and to exit out of that menu I'm going to press menu and now my LCD playback will be set to a 6 brightness.
