Introduced in 1987, the Canon EOS (Electro-Optical-System) is a popular system of interchangeable camera bodies, lenses and flashes. By 2007, more than 40 EOS camera models had been released. The main competition for this series is the Nikon F series, though the EOS models are more affordable, as well as more popular in most countries. The 40D is a midrange digital SLR camera with professional features, perfect for the advanced photographer who can't quite afford or justify spending the money for a pro model. The digital camera presents photographers with new tools, and new challenges for taking great photos. And part of becoming a great photographer is mastering the features and capabilities of your camera of choice.
In this free lesson on how to use the Canon EOS 40D digital camera, you will learn the basics such as charging the battery, changing lenses, and using the controls. Ryan Vaughn will demonstrate how to use the dials to navigate LED screens in order to adjust such key settings as shutter speed and aperture.
"Alright, you've purchased your Canon 40D, and you've gotten the box and opened it up. The first thing that you're going to want to do, is find the battery pack, because it most likely will not be charged. Your battery pack will look like this. It should have a cover on the back, which is easily removed. You just crank it off, just slide it off like that. Your back cover will come off. Then, what you're going to want to do is, find the charger. There are two kinds of chargers. In this case, I have the CG580 charger, which is, this charger just plugs straight into the wall, instead of with a cord. So, what you're going to want to do is, go ahead and stick your battery on the charger. There will be an arrow on the battery, that tells you which direction you need to put it on the charger, just follow that arrow. Go ahead and stick it on there. Then, what you're going to do with this charger is, if you look on the back, there's a plug that just needs to be pulled down, like this. Then, you can just take the charger, and stick it into the wall."
