In this clip I want to talk about photo electric eyes. What photographers call them are slaves and what this does is if this sees a bright light go off it will close a circuit and fire whatever it's plugged into. If this is plugged into a power pack and you fire another power pack then you don't need the cord going power pack to power pack. This slave will do that for you. On some of the mono lights, almost all of them now a days, have a built in slave to where the fire is flashing from your camera, a built in flash that the strobe hid with the built in slave will see that and go ahead and fire that, saves you from having to run a sync cord from your camera to the flash unit. These are pretty simple. They're not very expensive. Sometimes if you have them plugged into your power pack, if they go one way and your flash doesn't fire, sometimes for you just to take them out, turn them over, plug them in the other, they'll go ahead and fire. Another thing if you've had them for a while or if you've already used one, sometimes the contacts on the side here will get corroded and you just need to pull out your handy dandy knife or screwdriver and just scrape the sides of them a little bit and just clean that up and put it back in and your strobe should fire.
