"Hello, I'm Matt Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm here today to tell you all about the history of Thanksgiving. After Lincoln, every president issued a similar proclamation, having towards the tail end of November, as a national day of Thanksgiving, usually on a Thursday, so that they would kind of like have several days of fun. It was also during this time that several of the staples that we come to think of on Thanksgiving made their way onto the table. Like pumpkin pie for one, that got on the table. You started having your mashed potatoes, also got on there. Of course by now everyone was eating the good turkey, things are looking pretty good for Thanksgiving except for one thing. As I already mentioned, the continued existence of Thanksgiving still relied on the, sort of the will of the president to keep declaring, keep proclaiming a day of national Thanksgiving. It was still not a holiday and there could always be the chance you would have a kill joy in the White House who would think nah, I don't really want to do that, nope, not my cup of tea and that would be it for Thanksgiving."
