Series Summary

Once bitten, twice shy…or so they say. The vampire myth is one of the oldest and most widely-told stories of the modern age. Not merely a phenomenon local to Transylvania, the idea of blood sucking nostferatu roaming the earth, enslaving makind to a sort of undead servitude, inhabits the global pop culture imagination. This is, of course, due largely to the work of Bram Stoker, an author who crystallized the classic Dracula story in a book of the same name.

Strangely, in a day and age where science and skepticism have largely supplanted mythology as an answer to the supernatural, the vampire legend still holds great sway, a sort of glaring anachronism in the age of digital enlightenment. Perhaps the myth abides, in some form or another, because at its heart, it represents a visceral fear about life and death.

If you want to invoke that fear this Halloween, watch these videos on how to do classic vampire makup. Our experts will walk you through this easy, step-by-step transformation process, including Halloween makeup tips for the foundation, powder, highlights and contours, eyeshadow, bloody lips, vampire fangs, and finishing touches. It should be noted that these tips will work well for a sexy female vampire costume.

"Hi. I'm Melissa Dacher, here with model Susie Chhuor for Expert Village. Today, we are going to show you how to do vampire makeup for Halloween. First, I'm going to start with her face and apply a light coat of pale foundation to make it look like she is drained of blood. You can either apply your foundation with a light sponge like I'm doing or you can use a brush. The nice thing about a sponge is that it's a little bit more movable and you've got different sides to it so you can fill in the finer areas like around the nose and the eye corners without irritation like bristles do. Now it's okay if you want to color match your skin for this, but since vampires are mostly pale, it's nicer to go a shade lighter. you can even go a little ghostly-light if you choose to. But you just want a nice face for the makeup to start with. Get rid of any shine. You can even blend it into the lower areas of the chin and the neck. Just give her a nice pale coat. Okay. And you are set. "
