Summary: Learn how much to fill the apple bobbing tub when bobbing for apples this Halloween in this free Halloween video about bobbing for apples.
"Hi! I'm Matt Cail on behalf of Expert Village. I am here to tell you today how to set up and play bobbing for apples. Now that we have our apples, the next step is to get our tub or container that we are going to be putting the apples and water in. There are different trains of thought what works best for this. Traditionally bobbing for apples were done in a big actually more tin or other metal wash basins. I advise against that for a couple of reasons. If people are getting pretty active in a game, it is possible they can climb against the side of metal tub. I've even heard of even 1 or 2 instances where someone went down and struck their chin and cut their selves on metal tub. For those reasons, I recommend a good sturdy plastic container. This will be able to hold water just the same. It will be a little bit lighter than any equivalent metal container you would have and also avoid some safety hazards. It will be very hard for someone to hurt them self on this no matter how energetically they are bobbing for apples. What you are going to do is take your tub and fill it up with water. Now the water line you should be going for should be a couple of inches beneath; about 3 or 4 inches beneath the rim. That is far enough because you have to keep in mind the apples that you are going to pour in are going to raise the water level somewhat. You don't want the water level which is too close to the top otherwise it is going to be slopping out all night long but you also don't want a water level just too low for people having to bend too far down to even get close to the water.
