"Hello. I'm Matt Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you today how to survive a big family Thanksgiving. Early birds can be a big problem on Thanksgiving day. Thanksgiving day is one (well, barring travel problems like fog and storms)...Thanksgiving is one of those holidays where people tend to show up on time or early. Why is that? Well, they are looking forward to a good meal and they don't want to make sure that they don't miss it. So, you are going to have a lot of people who are sitting around. Maybe some of them will be helping you out, and that's great. You've provided them with a lot of snacks, which is good. You are trying to keep the rest of them out of the kitchen and they may be starting to get on your nerves a bit. Games can be a great solution. There are a number of games you can play on Thanksgiving. I'm not going to cover them here, but what I will say is that basic board games (you know, Monopoly, Scrabble, even Risk) can do a lot of things. First off, they distract people. They are not going to be thinking as much about turkey and when the heck is the turkey going to be out on the dinner plate when they are trying to play games against each other. Secondly, they can be a great place to channel emotions in. If you are starting to get a little bit annoyed at uncle Henry or cousin Mosencrantz, then you can basically go and play a game of Risk against them and try and conquer the world and push them right out of the way. So, consider games as useful distractions and other activities to kind of keep people's attention off of the turkey and out of your hair. That will lower your stress level, and will also result in a more entertaining afternoon for them, too. "
