Series Summary

Every February, men, women and children of all ages prepare for the holiday that involves gift giving, chocolate, carefully designed cards and love: Valentine's Day. Though the holiday itself has a long and torrid history starting somewhere around the beginning of the 19th century, Americans enjoy a version of the holiday that focuses more on gifts and expressions of love than on the religious or more traditional aspects associated with the day. Men woo their ladies with cards, flowers, and various other presents while children typically partake in less expensive versions of expression at school. Through this sort of exchange, kids can learn about giving, sharing, expressing love and thanks as well as picking up a few neat arts and crafts skills along the way. Construction paper, scissors and some markers are about all your kids need to make homemade cards for their friends and family members.

In this free instructional video clip series, our expert will show you some very simple methods for making homemade arts and crafts with your kids for the Valentine's Day holiday. Help your child use simple tools like scissors, markers and paper products to create simple cards for friends. Heart shaped cards, stuffed valentines, card holders and much more are explained and demonstrated for your children to watch and duplicate for their secret crush. Let's just hope the little red-headed girl doesn't forget to check under her desk!

"First off we need to get our supplies together. A Valentine is just not something you throw together, it takes some preparation and planning and making sure you have the right tools and instruments to make sure you create the ultimate card of romance. For our Valentine's Day card we going to be cutting things up and sticking them back together again in our really neat shapes. That means we're going to need a really good pair of scissors, and also some other adhesives, either in the form of tape, glue, and this glue can be like squeeze it out of the container on or it can be more like a traditional glue stick for a little more control. It's really up to your preference on what you want to use for adhesive. In addition we're going to need a good straight edge aka a ruler. This can be as big as a yard stick but our Valentine's day card is going to be about ten inches wide today so you going to want to have at least that much measurement to have some nice straight lines. In addition you?re going to need paper to make your Valentines Day card. Paper suggestions I have are pink and red and I will cover pros and cons to both later on. In addition have you ever heard of doilies? Doilies are this nice kind of frill shapes which can be used to frame, otherwise border your Valentine's Day card. They frequently come in white, red, or pink. Last but not least we're going to be using a personal photograph of you and your loved one, your beloved here, which we're also going to frame and make a centerpiece for our card."
