"Hi, I'm Ginny on behalf of Expert Village and I'd like to tell you a story, come, travel back in time with me as we explore the brief history of Halloween. Although many of our modern day Halloween traditions come from all over Europe a great many of our traditions come from the Irish, who most closely followed the traditions of the ancient Celts. In early times, in Ireland, on Halloween night, the people of the villages would form a parade to honor one of their Gods, Muckola. The leader of the parade would wear a white robe and a mask made from the head of an animal. The parade would run throughout the countryside begging for food for their God. The wives, in the meantime, would cook Colcannon, a dish which is made from potatoes, parsnips, cabbage, onions, and greens. The wives would drop a ring, a coin, and a thimble in this dish or perhaps a shepherd's pie. Whoever, found the ring in his or her portion would marry soon. The lucky person who was served the coin in his portion of food would certainly have a wealthy future. But, woe to the person who found the thimble. This sad person was destined never to marry. These are a few of the traditions that the Irish brought with them. Stay tuned for the History of Halloween, Chapter ten."
