Temporary Auto Focus Override for a Canon XH A1

"Now I'm going to talk about temporary auto focus override. What does this mean? It's basically, even when auto focus is on, we have the option to go ahead and try to set a manual focus. Now, if you're going the trouble of setting a manual focus maybe you should be using manual focus in the first place. But, let me show you how this is done. First off, we didn't mention before that this is where our focus switch is, the switch from auto focus to manual focus. See right now it's in 'AF' mode, manual focus is the other mode. So, right now we're in auto focus and we're still on that instant auto focus. So how do we override auto focus to do what we want it to do? What we do is, all we do, is use the focus ring. And you can see I just adjusted the focus. It kind of waits a second and then all the focus kicks back in and tries to focus it back up. You can almost see exactly when it kicks in, when it starts to kind of flash, which is the telltale sign of auto focus in the first place and why I think you shouldn't be using it. But, if you're using auto focus for whatever reason and you find all of a sudden it's not working. Usually if your zoomed in all the way or if there's low light conditions auto focus doesn't work that well, you can go ahead and override that by go ahead and using your focus ring which is the first ring on your Canon XH A1, the first one closes to the lens. That's how to temporarily override your auto focus using the manual focus ring."
