Series Summary

Halloween is a great holiday for fun and festivities the whole family can enjoy. Dating back to the 5th century BC in Celtic Ireland, Halloween originally may have developed on a day when the Celts believed that spirits could intermingle with the living, and so would dress up in ghoulish scary costumes and noisily parade around the neighborhood being destructive, in order to frighten away spirits looking for bodies to possess. Today, the Halloween holiday is more fun and playful with children and adults dressing up in scary Halloween costumes for trick or treating or a fun Halloween party. Many people carve Halloween pumpkins to make Jack-O-Lanterns, and also decorate with fake spider webs, bats, ghosts, and other ghoulish decorations.

In this free video series, our expert will show you how you can keep you and your children safe this Halloween. There are many hazards on Halloween for young children and teens, including poisoned candy, choking hazards, and fire hazards. Let our expert show you how to avoid these Halloween dangers with expert safety tips for you and your family this Halloween season.

"Hi! I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and I'm also the official mom for mommywood.com. Today I'm going to be sharing some Halloween safety tips for trick or treating. Halloween is one of my family's favorite holidays of the year. We love to decorate the house, get in our costumes, and get some candy around the neighborhood. Let's face it, there are a lot of things that can go wrong on Halloween night. How many other nights a year are you opening your door for strangers, letting your children take candy from strangers, having toddlers running a muck around busy streets, and teenagers pulling pranks. Open flames, costumes dragging on the ground. There's just a lot that can go wrong Halloween if you're not careful, but there are also lots of things that you can do to make sure that your family has a very, very happy and safe Halloween. Tonight I'm going to do be going over some safety tips for both your younger and your older children because naturally, there are different guidelines according to the age. A younger child obviously needs supervision much more than an older child, but an older child, you do kind of have to watch out for them to, especially if they're driving. Stick around and I'm going to be sharing some of my tips that will hopefully help you and your family have a very happy Halloween."
