"Hearing aid batteries are "Zinc Air" batteries, so they are activated by air. If you look at this package of batteries, turn it over you'll see there's a tab. As soon as you remove that tab from the battery, the battery has been activated. So now there's air getting into the battery. Well they're packaged this way to preserve the life of the battery, so, the surface of the battery is sealed with the sticker until you're ready to use it. As soon as you're ready to use it, you remove the sticker, that activates the battery, and now you're ready to use the battery. The battery needs a few seconds to power up. So what I always recommend is that as soon as you remove the sticker from the battery, wait a second before inserting it into the hearing aid. That allows a little bit of air exchange to happen before you put it into the hearing aid."
