Series Summary

The celebration of Christmas marks one of the most festive holidays of the year. Traditionally a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, Christmas has taken on a myriad of secular customs and activities. The exchange of gifts and presents placed under a Christmas tree by Santa Claus is certain to bring fond memories for many children in Western cultures, and tales of Rudolph leading eight reindeer on the roof are classics. Often Christmas activities incorporate winter activities like sipping hot cocoa or using winter foliage as Christmas decorations.

In this free video series, our expert will show you how to make dried pasta Christmas garlands. This fun and easy holiday decoration is similar to popcorn Christmas garlands, but might just be even easier. You will get step by step instructions for picking out the pasta and the wool string to string your garland. You will also learn how to tie the knots for securing your Christmas garland, and how to paint the pasta for extra decoration. If you are looking for a great craft to share with the kids, let our expert teach you how to make these fun Christmas decorations.

"KATALIN TOTH: Hi. I'm Katalin, the creator of Creative English in Hungary, and I am here on behalf of Expert Village. Now, I'm going to show you a few Christmas garlands from dried pasta. I'm going to give you some tips about them. These pasta garlands are very easy to make. You only need to put a different type of pasta on the strings, and what you shouldn't forget is to tie it at the end because, otherwise, you can waste a lot of work. Because if you just put the pasta next to each other and then you forget to tie it, the whole pasta will drop and it's a waste of time and it's a waste of energy and your children will be very sad if they make it and they lose their work. Basically, you can be very creative with this. You can use different types of pasta; you can mix them; you can color them; you can spray them; you can repaint them. First of all, you need to choose what kind of pasta you want. The first one, I'm going to make this kind of pasta. You will also need a needle with a big hole on it. And if you want to paint it, then you need a paintbrush, water and some paint. You will also need some thin but quite strong wool. So first of all, decide how long garland--garments you want to make and then cut off a bit longer than that. Then--because you will need to tie it in the end so you will need some extra space."
