"Hi, I'm Jennifer Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how to make fun delicious gingerbread men. To our beatened sugar and shortening we're now going to add the rest of our ingredients. That includes one cup of molasses; we're going to pour that really thick stuff, well that is just really thick coming out of the jar. I guess this is what they mean by when it says slow as molasses. I'm pouring, there we go and we're getting some more coming out now, a little bit faster there. We want one cup of molasses and then we're going to be adding in our egg and two tablespoons of white vinegar and almost there. The molasses is going to add a nice flavor to the gingerbread which is characteristic of gingerbread. As I've mentioned earlier if you really don't like the smell of molasses with the taste of molasses for a similar consistency you can use dark corn syrup. But if you're going to for the more traditional then I highly recommend using molasses. I'm going to use a spatula to get that last bit of molasses out of the measuring cup and that's just well. That's really thick molasses. So, add our egg and once we start mixing this we're going to start on a slower speed to start incorporating things and to make sure that the egg yoke gets broken before going a little bit faster. Put that there and then our vinegar. And you might wonder why vinegar is being added to cookies. It's not really enough to effect the flavor but you need an acid to interact with the baking soda. That's what sets it off. So there's two tablespoons and then lets get this started. Start slowly until the egg yoke is broken and then we're going to increase the speed and let me tell you the smell is pretty interesting now with a little bit of that vinegar. So this is being mixed into basically a brown goopy mess. So we're going to mix a little bit longer until it's smooth and then we'll be ready for the next step."
