Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Jennifer Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how to make fun delicious gingerbread men. Our next step is going to be adding sugar to our beaten shortening. We're going to use one cup of granulated white sugar and just pour that into the measuring cup. Unlike some of the other cookies, we're using white sugar because it's dryer. When doing gingerbread men you don't want it to be a really chewy cookie, you want it to be a crisper dryer cookie and brown sugar has a lot more moisture in it. So if that was the affect you were trying to achieve, you'll be using that but with the gingerbread cookies you want it to be nice and crisp and solid and hold together, so we're using white sugar. We're going to just start in slowly beating it with the Crisco, with the shortening and increase the speed and you're going to end up at least initially where it's going to be a little bit grainy. You can see it's more in chunks. So we're going to scrape that down with the spatula, at least once just to make sure to get all of the sugar incorporated into the shortening. Scrape this off the sides and then beat it some more."
