"My name is John Mays. Some people refer to me as “Evil” John Mays. I’m a makeup effects artist and I’m here to demonstrate some makeup techniques for Expertvillage.com. What we have here is the alcohol based makeup, it goes on pretty fast. When the alcohol evaporates, the makeup will set and it works really well in situations where you don’t want the actor having to need makeup reapplied often because they’re sweating it off. Put the makeup on and kind of dance it around because the idea here is that the more variegated it is, the more unusual it is, the less it’s going to look like you’ve got an appliance on somebody’s face. If you use just straight red or straight black or something like that, it’s going to look like you used just straight red or straight black, so you need to kind of mix things up a bit. So if you’ve got a palette that’s got a variety of colors to it, kind of just work around until you get a look that you like. What we’ll do is put some black in this eye wound to give it some depth-to-field, it also gives you nice little shadows and things. "
