"When you are making a tote, they turn out sturdier if you choose the ads that are just inside the cover of the magazine. You see that the cover is just inside there, that's ok. Looks fun to have it inside. So it's different material, also some of the higher end fashion magazines have all the paper, or at least a lot of them are heavier weight. Those make great totes. The flimsier papers like in the center of a magazine are better left for wrapping up a little box or something like that. They're just not strong enough for a tote, unless you want to rubber cement them to a piece of card stock. So we are making a tote, so I've chosen a heavy weight ad and isn't this gorgeous, this is going to be a darling tote. First thing we are going to do is trim off this rough edge because I just tore it out of the magazine. I'm going to use my scrap booking paper trimmer, if you don't have one just draw a line with a ruler and cut it carefully with your scissors. Ok we are just going to trim off that rough part and now we are ready to go."
