Originally named for Christian martyrs named Valentine, the day became more about romantic love in the Middle ages when courtly love flourished. It has become a bit commercialized since the Middle ages though, and is now the second largest greeting card sending holiday of the year behind Christmas.

"Hi. I'm Amy Warkentien from Expert Village and I'm going to teach you today how to make kids valentine day crafts. And we have five options here. Our first one is the tissue paper stained glass hearts. This involves cutting and pasting. And that's about it. So a three year old and up could probably make this craft with a little adult help. The next craft is going to be for an older child; maybe in late elementary. It's fairly time consuming but if you make a smaller project like a coaster or maybe a little picture frame that would make it a lot shorter. The cards that we have, this one has buttons on it that you paste. All of these involve just cutting and pasting as well. So these are options that you could do with preschool and up. A child who just maybe needed a little help to cut out the hands. And that's about it so we look forward to teaching you today how to do each of these crafts with your children."
