on 8/2/2008 Looking over the slow-motion segment at the end of the video, it seems that Esmeralda is using the heel to strike the paddle, going from outside-to-inside, and the upper part of the foot when inside-outside. I can't tell if it's what she'd do against an opponent or not, since in my Korean style, Soo Bahk Do, the emphasis is on striking with the heel by a tilt of the foot in both crescent kicks.

on 8/2/2008 Though it's not gone into in the video, Esmerelda seems to be using crescent kicks to strike the head/neck area, probably with her heel for impact and not the ankle bone. But the way she kicks so high, I'd say she's able to drop her heel right onto the collar bone--an axe kick.
