Series Summary

Kung Fu is a form of martial arts that is native to China and based heavily in tradition. According to tradition, forms of martial arts are traced as far back as the 12th century BC. The term “Kung Fu” was first heard in Western countries in the 20th century and was wildly popularized by Hong Kong films in the 1960s. Kung Fu involves various philosophies suggesting deeper meaning than just the fighting style. For instance, for a process to be truly Kung Fu, the student must show motivation, self-discipline, and time.

There are many stances and fighting techniques in Kung Fu. Our expert, a Master of martial arts, teaches these stances, punches, kicks and warm-ups in this series of videos. Learn the cat stance, cross stance, horse riding stance, single leg stance, small mountain stance, the Pu Tui stance, and the mountain climbing stance. Learn to defend yourself with Kung Fu center punches and center punch back fist. Watch as our expert demonstrates the essential front kick, crescent kick and the striking roundhouse kick. See our expert and his assistant deomstrate the Duan Chuan. This is a short attack that involves many of the stances, punches and kicks that you will learn in this series of videos.

"This is Master Yun Yang Wang from Wang’s Martial Art and on behalf of the Expert Village and Ms. Esmeralda Sanchez and we’re demonstrating this clip for the Cat Stance. And notice the cat stance, the body weight is on the back leg and the front legs are ready for counterattack at any moment and the hands is in grabbing position. And notice the body needs to be straight and the weight is on the back leg. The eyesight will be looking in the direction of the opponent. Now we’re demonstrating the Cat Stance, how the application will be. For the application of the cat stance, one person will be stepping punch, then the block and grab in the cat stance, then can counterattack with a kicking low kick, mid section kick and high kick. Thank you. "
