"Hi, this is Sifu Todd Shawn Tei. We're going to go over some shifting in a drill using tan sau and pak sau. So, we're in ije stance here, she's going to punch and shift. I'm going to go into tan sau, pak sau. Now, I'm going to go into lop sau, bong sau. So, I'm going to go from one deflection into another and this is just a drill to practice. In a real attack, you deflect an attack the same time. In the drill, we just go through deflection and shifting just so that you get used to using the deflections as I shift. Okay, slow. Tan, pak, lop, bong. Now, we do the other side. Tan, pak, lop, bong. Okay, now we're going to do the left side. So, we have tan sau, pak sau, lop sau, and bong sau. Notice when I do bong sau the back arm is up as you're using bong sau. You can do the same type of drills with some hits. I can go into tan sau hit, pak sau hit, bong sau. I can shift the other way to a fak sau. I can go into a lop sau and hit. So, you can combine many different hits and strikes in Wing Chun using shifting. So, this is just basic progression. Shift into tan sau, pak sau, lop sau grabbing hand, bong sau. Pak sau means slap hand. Tan sau means palm uphand. Bong sau is wing arm of the crane and lop sau means grabbing hand in Cantonese. Some basic shifting drills."
