"Tres Tew here. I'm an instructor at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to be showing you how to use your jacket or your hooded sweatshirt in a defense situation. Now, you can use your jacket and combine elements of the shield and the grappling tool all into one. So what you are going to want to do is fling your jacket just like this and take and grab your sleeve and pull it off around here. Then grab it right here. You want to try and keep as much of your arm covered, but then continue to wrap. Now, if Nick were to throw a strike, I can block it out of the way and at the same time, come in and wrap just like this. Or, if I want to use just the wrapping tool, I can do that. If I want to use just the blocking tool, I can do that. Again, you are combining the elements of the shield and the grappling tool all into one. This is very effective. The only thing is that you don't have both hands; you don't have an open hand so you are not able to grab with that hand. You can let go, but the shield, the other element doesn't become....excuse me, it loses some of it's effectiveness. So, again, that's one way you can use your jacket or hoodie to defend yourself. "
