"My name is Tres Tew; I am an instructor here at Yeshua' Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to be showing you how to defend yourself with open hands against either rifles or shotguns. I'd like to talk to you a little bit about some of the basic principles when defending yourself with open hands against a gun. Now with a gun, the gun is a projectile weapon, it shoots a projectile out of the barrel and it goes in a straight line. So if you are able to deflect the line of fire the trajectory is no longer going to hit you. So if you are able to push it out of the way, one of the basic principle is, even if it does fire, you're not going to be hit with that. From there you can follow up into any number of techniques. Again I just want to stress, that any way you do it, you can do it like this but you want to twist your body especially when you're doing this. You can't just turn, use your hand if he were to pull the trigger at the same time I did that I would still get shot because my shoulder is probably still going to be in the path of the bullet. So what I want to do is twist my entire body and get it out of the way of the gun and then I can follow up. Keeping control of the muzzle or the hand or whatever, I want to keep control and I want to do something to keep him from doing that and getting the butt, the gun from him. That's a couple of the basic principles that we have for the gun, we'll be going over those here in just a little bit."
