"Hi. My name is Tres Tew. I'm an instructor at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to be teaching you about improvised weapons. A broken bottle, coke bottle, beer bottle or anything of that nature could be used very effectively. It has an edge on it; it can cut. A lot of times when you break it, it will break very close, but if you can find some kind of edge like this, it is still more effective than nothing. So as he's coming in, I'm just attacking across the wrist right here; just cutting, if I want to cause him to bleed. Or I can just cut the muscles just like this. You probably don't want to stab with it, unless it has some type of point. But the main thing we want to do with a broken bottle is get rid of the knife threat. Also you want to be careful when you are breaking the actual bottle. You can do this over someone's head, or if you have a bottle and the are attacking you and you are able to get control of the knife and break it over their head, that is very effective. It causes glass shards and things like that to go all in their face; it causes severe discomfort and pain. When you are breaking it, just be careful and make sure that you don't cut yourself. "
