"Hi. My name is Tres Tew. I'm an instructor at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to be teaching you about improvised weapons. Now, the scarf, your tie, your belt, whatever can be used very effectively as a flexible weapon. Now, flexible weapons don't directly block, they simply absorb the shock, so that's what we are going to use it for. Our attacker comes in with a thrust. We are absorbing the shock, but we are still pushing down. So we are pushing past his arm, and from here we are loosening up a little bit (by rolling our hands this way) and we are hooking around like this. We can either pull back this way or go to the throat to a choke. Because he is a knife attacker, that means he is very serious. He has pulled a knife on us, so it is okay to go ahead and use force. Just go ahead and take it straight up to here. Choke him out; anything that keeps him from attacking us again with a knife. That's one way that you can use a scarf, belt or tie as an improvised weapon. "
