"Hi. My name is Tres Tew. I'm an instructor at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to be teaching you about improvised weapons. I have several items here around me that can be seen or found in everyday use (many of them are on my person). All of these have the qualities of a weapon of some type. First we have the cane. This is a stick-like weapon that can be used to strike with. Also, we can take a short umbrella like this and hook, reap with it, punch and strike with the back of it. The umbrella (this is a long umbrella), it has a very sharp point on it, so that can be used to puncture as well as to strike with. Also, this right here, this is a stick like object, whether you believe it or not. Roll it up, and it is now a very effective tool to use against knife defense. You can either hold it like this or swat with it like this. Next we have knife-like or puncturing objects. A simple fork; I don't have to tell you what these can do...puncture is all you need to know. Letter openers, butter knives, pens, all that, scissors as well. Then we have flexible weapons. Flexible weapons can be wrapped around the hand or the wrist and be used to choke with, tie up someone's limbs or just simply to trap someone with to counter their attack. Examples of these: the rope, the scarf, the tie, also, we have a chain here (this is a little bit more weighted than any of the other ones, so this one can actually be used to strike with), also we have the belt (this has a weighted tip to it, so it can be used to strike with as well), and the last of the flexible weapons that I have here is the extension cord (also, this is knotted, so it can be used to strike with). Now we have shield like objects. This can be like a purse simply swung at an attacker or an attacker's knife. This is very effective. A backpack; if you have it on your shoulder, you just swing it out towards the attacker's knife. Next we have edged weapons. This can be anything from a CD to a plate. The CD can be broken and you can take the big end and cut with it. Also, the same concept applies to a plate. Simply smash it. You can throw it at an attacker, but when you smash it, it leaves a jagged edge right here that can be used to punch out with or slash across with. Also, we have rock-like objects. This can be a cup. First, what you want to do empty the liquids of the cup into the attacker's face. A wallet, we also have a phone, as well as our keys. These are all items that can be found in every day use. The rock-like or stone-like objects can be used to bludgeon with or can be used as a thrown attack or a distraction in someone's face. These are just a few examples and types of improvised weapons.
