"Hi, I'm Tres Tew. I'm an instructor here at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts and today I'm going to be talking to you on behalf of Expert Village, about how to use a knife for self defense. Okay, now we are going to show you how to use your knife to defend someone who's throwing a side kick. Okay, again, it's the same principle as the front kick. As soon as they come in, you are cutting. You are attacking the leg, so that as soon as it hits, they don't want to put their weight on it. They are going to go down, and they don't want to run after you. So all you are doing is, you are going to come in...come in and moving out away from them. At that point, you can bolt, find a phone, call the cops, or whatever you want to do. Also, you can catch. With a side kick, just catch. Keep in mind that they may still have the knife. So, you want to take that knife out first and then maybe take out the leg (sever the Achilles). Also, you do have strikes to the body here; all kinds of stuff. That's the defense against the side kick. "
