How to Defend Against a Downward Stab with a Knife

"Hi, I'm Tres Tew. I'm an instructor here at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts and today I'm going to be talking to you on behalf of Expert Village, about how to use a knife for self defense. Okay, we are going to talk a little bit about how to defend yourself against a downward stab. My partner Nick, is going to come with a downward stab just like this. Now, what you want to do is, you're going to catch your knife along the wrist right here. At the same time, you are hooking it back down. Maybe you're cutting it through. You can either bring it back to the leg and pin it or you just cut, hook and then come back up. You've got multiple stabs you can do. Everything under the sun; multiple stabs, cuts, anything you want to do. The first thing you want to attack though, is that knife hand. Make him drop his knife so that it's no longer a threat. If he drops it on the first one, you're able to use the butt to strike with. You don't want to cause too much damage. You've got that wrist lock there.
