"Hi I'm Tres Tew. I'm an instructor here at Christian Martial Arts. Today I'm going to be talking to you on behalf of Expert Village about how to use a knife for self defense. Okay, we're going to talk a little bit about basic knife cuts, stabs, how to change your grip on the knife and especially the basic stance you use. Again, the basic protective stance, you're covering your vital organs and keeping your knife right here. Now just the way the body works, I can barely reach Nick's neck right here. But as soon as I lower myself and cover, I'm able to stab all the way through, that's just the science of the body. So you're actually gaining a little bit more reach when you do that. So I'm able to get a little bit more distance where as I'm not able to before. That's a little bit better for your reach and it keeps you a little bit better protected and you're able to move. Now as far as cuts go, there's a lot, especially if you have a double blade knife. Back grip here, here, here. Up swings, thrust, high thrust, everything you can think of. When you switch the grip over; you've got down step, up slashes, cross, cross, back stabs, coming across just like this, just about everything. A nice very versatile weapon, you can use it in numerous ways; you can use it for working, self defense, just about anything you want to. Keep in mind, you've got your basic stance, quite a few cuts that you've got. The thing about the knife you want to be very rapid with all your movements, with all your strikes and follow them up with something else. You never want to stay still for too long with your knife. And that is basic cuts and stance of the knife. "
