"TRES TEW: Hi, I'm Tres Tew. I'm an instructor here at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts. I'm going to be teaching you about hot to use open hands to defend yourself against the knife and this'll be on behalf of Expert Village. Okay, now we're going to be talking about block and counter. This is a simultaneous movement, you're blocking and countering and usually following up with some more--whatever your attacker throws, you're blocking it and countering it at the same time. They come in with a thrust or something, getting it out of the way and striking them, okay? It's simultaneous movement, okay? As soon as they're moving, you're moving, blocking the knife hand. Always, you want to make contact with that knife hand, never the knife, okay? You're going to cut your hands up so be aware where that wrist is. That's something you kind of have to train in, a lot of times you just do push, parry, press and kind of know where the knife is in your knife training, okay? So whatever he does, he comes, cross, you're blocking and punching, he comes up, you're blocking and punching, okay? Just simultaneous movement is the key to this, okay? You always want to follow up with a flurry, okay? And that's how to block and counter when someone's attacking you with a knife."
