"TRES TEW: Hi, I'm Tres Tew. I'm an instructor here at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts. I'm going to be teaching you about how to use open hands to defend yourself against the knife and this'll be on behalf of Expert Village. Okay, now often times, you can use items that are on you as a distraction that can be thrown in the face of your attacker, someone who's mugging you and are really close to you, maybe they've got you grabbed or something, they've got their knife up to you. They're probably going to ask for your wallet, your watch, whatever, okay? So you just take off your watch, okay? And now when you do this, it's a simultaneous movement, okay? You're throwing the keys into the face of your attacker and at the same time, getting control of the knife. Also with a hat, "Hey man, look, look, I don't want anything to do with it." Okay, you just throw it in their face, immediately get control of the knife and follow through with something. Also with the wallet, okay, that's probably what they're going to be asking for, so you just, "Okay, okay, I'm going for my wallet." Just fling it outside their face and then you're ready. Always, when you're using a distraction, get in close enough to take control of the wrist, okay? Also your key is really good because they can do some pretty good damage. "Hey man, give me your car keys. You got a nice ride." Okay, "Alright, here you go. Okay, I'm giving my car keys." And then you give it to them, right in the face. Make sure that you're getting the control of the wrist, okay? So just keep in mind that you have several things that can be used to defend yourself when someone's attacking you with a knife."
