"TRES TEW: Hi, I'm Tres Tew. I'm an instructor here at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts. I'm going to be teaching you about how to use open hands to defend yourself against the knife and this'll be on behalf of Expert Village. Now I'm going to be talking to you a little bit about the basic protective stance, how to keep your vital organs and arteries and everything close and yet be able to counter someone's attack. I'm going to talk you this and about how to move in a stance. First of all, our attacker, he's got his knife out. What we want to do if we're in close and we know we're going to be in it for a little while, we're not going to be able to just jump on 'em because they've got their knife like right in our face, they're mugging us. What we want to do we're going to drop down into this stance right here, a little bit of weight on this front leg but we are ready to hop back, move around if we need to and this hand right here is going to come up under our chin and the purpose behind this is we're protecting our [SOUNDS LIKE] turf, the major arteries right here, we're protecting that and we're hunching over just like this and keeping all of our internal organs there but we're also ready to move. We're just ready to move counter, get a hold of knife and counter whatever we need to do we're there but we want to keep ourself protected. Nick, go ahead and flash at me as fast as you can. I'm not able to move--go ahead and like stab at me or something. It's very rare--I knew that was happening--just at random, come on at me. I'm not able to move fast enough to get away from that unless you're really fast. So what you want to do you want to keep yourself protected. You notice he's stabbing my arm. It's better to get cut on the arm then be stabbed and have your intestines falling out. So what we want to do we want to keep all of our vitals protected even our eyes at times. So just keep in mind that you're ready to move, to circle, everything but we're keeping our vitals covered and we're doing that with our eyes or excuse me, with our arms. So that's the basic stance when you're defending against the knife and how to move in it."
