"TRES TEW: Hi, my name is Tres Tew. I am an instructor here at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts. Today, we're going to be talking about the katana on behalf of Expert Village. Okay, often the katana is worn in your belt with the blade pointed up, okay? But over the years, it's been worn many different ways. Ninjas would carry it over their backs and often, there was 2 holsters right here in a braided cord would go in between them, and you would tie that through your belt, and that would be how you wear it. But recently, the most recent way to wear your sword was with the blade turned up and the reason being, you could simply turn it over and pull it out for unsheathing and slash it in the same movement. As far as hand placement goes on the katana, you're pretty much going to be holding it one hand down here, just above or just below the end of it, of the hilt, and one hand's going to be placed right here, and this is for wrist movement. The more wrist movement you get, the more powerful the attack is going to be. So that is how you would wear your katana as well as how you would hold it."

on 10/3/2008 no tsuba no idea on how to use an Iaito. Sorry to say this young man but expert you are not, I have watched your video series and there is no appreciation on the true art and skill involved in using an Iaito and I would fear for your safety if you ever used a Shinken in anger. Go seek you National Kendo/Iaido/Jodo assosiation and learn the fundimentals for Iaido. You have to realise that what your showing is flawed and at times not very safe. You might ask who am I to critacise but I do have several 15 years experience in Iaido/Jodo with another countries National assosiation (European Country)and we have won the world championship several times, we do get instruction from our senior Japanese sensei several times a year, so I do know what I am looking at. Post an personal email and I will send you some footage of good Iaido.
Take care in your training and please seek out a good National instructor.
