"Hi. I'm Tres Tew. I'm an instructor at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to be talking to you a little bit about open hand combat. I'm going to show you how to defend yourself against a jab using some of the strikes we've learned. Now, first what we are doing, we are pushing the punch out of the way with our right hand. Then we are coming across with our left hand and grabbing the arm here. We can either take and strike here. That completely shatters the arm. Or we can just soften up the ribs a little bit, depending on what we want to do. If it's a friend that got a little angry, maybe we want to just push, pair and press and just push him out of the way. But if it's a serious attacker (maybe they are a mugger, whatever), we are pushing out of the way. We want to try and stop them from continuing to attack, and the best way we are going to do that is cause them damage where they cannot do that. So, we are going to strike them on this elbow, pushing it down, causing it to bend out. Strike here; punch here. You've got the ribs here and obviously you've got the neck. You can take and scratch across the face or you can come across the neck here. You've got plenty of options. But it all starts with this simple push, pair and press; that right there. That opens up quite a bit. You've also got strikes to the spine right here, strikes to the neck, collarbone and all that. That's how to defend yourself with strikes from a punch."
