"When your doing a day hike most likely your going to bring water from home because your not going to be out that long. However, if you are going to be out in an area where your not sure what the water supply is going to be or your not sure really if your going to have access to water you may want to consider taking some sort of water purification or water, it's basically the biggest concern you that you have is taken bacteria out of water which would be your not virus but just bacteria, things that would make you sick. There is a Sawer product that's made right here in Safety Harbor FL. This particular water filter you just basically fill the water or fill the bottle with water from your source and then you drop into the bottle and just drink it and that's all to it. However, if are more comfortable with pumping your water you may want to go with a more of a pump filter. This particular is made by "MSR" and this filter is a ceramic filter on the inside which is in the center has a carbon pore. This filter is very easy to clean. You just scrap it off with sort of a scotch bright pad and this filter also will screw right on to the top of your Nalgene bottle, if you happen to carry a Nalgene bottle. Screws right on and it pumps exactly like this. It will pump about one liter per minute."
