"Hi. When selecting a route for your day hike one of the first things you want to determine is just how far do you want to go? Where are you going? How far do you want to go? What's the terrain going to be like? So you need to really determine these things in order to decide what kind of gear to bring, again, and also to determine if you're in shape for that type of hike or not. If you're hiking here in Florida, again, most of the terrain here in Florida is pretty flat so you don't really have to worry too much about being in tremendous shape. You're going to hike between 1 and 3 miles an hour on average, again, depending on terrain. If it's pretty hilly, you're going to go about 1 to 2 miles an hour, if it's really flat you're going to go 2 to 3 miles an hour, and that's if you really just take your time, leisurely enjoy your hike. So those are the most important things to consider when you determine how far you want to go and selecting your hike."
