I am Steve Jimenez with Fit and Fearless Krav Maga along with Heath Jones. In this segment and the segments following we are going to go over some self-defense techniques. What we are going to be doing is we are going to go over gun, which is one of the most feared attack and it is called RCAT. Its Redirect, Control, Attack, and Take away. That’s the acronym, that’s the order that we do to defense. And it's Redirect, Control the weapon, Attack the assailant, Take away the weapon. “Give me your money” “Here take it”, and hopefully they will walk away. But in some situations may be that’s the not case. Now here, I don’t have any problem giving up my wallet. You know here is my wallet take it. Here is my watch take it. Here is my phone take it. You know I don’t want any problems with you and then they walk away. They leave, that’s good, you are better off trying to leave or trying to end the situation that way than just you know automatically going into a gun defense. You don't know the person may not just, you know, may not want to hurt, you they just want something from you. They could be desperate. So from here, the weapon is up. Now let’s say that the attack is eminent regardless I have already given him everything that I have to give him and the weapon is still on my face. Now from here I know I have to make a defense. I have got nothing to give them but my life and I am not about to do that. So from here your hands never go up. When your assailant tells you to put your hands up just the last thing you want to do. Just put your hands up. Now the reason why is because when it come to weapons you want to make the least detectable movement and the detectable movement in this situation here would be this. If my hands are here he saw my hands moving towards the weapon he would be able to see it and he would be able to recognize it and be able to pull the trigger immediately. So from here his hands are up here now just assume he tells me to get my hands up now that is the time to act, he already knows he is expecting you to move your hands so that’s the time to go for the weapon or redirect; so from here redirect here, hand comes up, control and attack. This is the RCAT, redirect control, attack, attack, attack come down here, hand here, break and take away the weapon is mine. This is the control part. Remember we had RCAT. We had redirect, I redirected the weapon. I have controlled the weapon right here. Hands comes down right here up underneath. Just assuming that the weapon is on a flat surface on the table, I am going to grab the bag where the hammer of the weapon is. What I am going to do I am going to rotate the top part of this weapon here. This part I am going to put it flat and the other side on the table all the way over. And as the trigger is inside the trigger when we trained we do not allow our trainers to put the fingers in the trigger because this technique actually breaks the index finger, the trigger finger. So from here we can imagine the fingers are inside the trigger guard. We are going to take this flat part of the weapon all the way over we are going to turn it to 180 degrees, here breaking the finger. I am doing it real nice and slow because I like Heath, I don’t want to break his finger. When its done in a rapid motion like this it is going to snap the finger and break it. So once we do that we must bring it back to 180 degrees. Because if the finger is in there now its broke but this is also a limb that is inside the trigger that can prevent me from pulling my weapon back. So if I leave it here and pull it back it is going to be snagged. I don’t want to do that so I am going to bring it here and so it makes it clean , escape, back out, to my body now I have got the weapon.
