Video Transcript

" In this segment we are going to go over another variation of a straight punch, but this is a forward, downward motion and it is called a hammer fist. You make a contact, this time you make a tight fist as if you were punching with the top knuckles, but this time you make a contact with the medial part of the fist down here. So, all the mechanics are pretty much the same. We are going to keep the guard up the whole time. When one weapon is out, the other one is guarding, either full-guard or half-guard. Okay, so from here, my guard is up, my shoulders are relaxed here, my weapon goes forward and first. I am going to rotate my body, just to give a little bit more weight and leverage into the strike. From here, straight down forward and as I rotate, notice when I rotate my hip goes forward into the strike, notice the guard is still up, my chin is down, looking straight forward on the target. Every time I make target, if you are practicing at home make sure you always hit the same part of the pad, never have your hands go wild over the pad, learn good body mechanics, good body control. I am going to strike forward, get my body into the movement as I strike. I am going to make sure my hip, my body weight is into the strike. I have good balance and good leverage. From here as I rotate to get the other strike in, I am going to rotate my body and drive forward, come straight down making contact. Notice how the ball of my foot is on the ground attached and not up or on a tiptoe. I am going to be down, my knees are slightly bent and my hips are forward here. I am going to show you the points of contact. And every technique that we do, we like to demonstrate the points of contact with all our weapons rather than just hitting a pad or just telling you to throw straight punches, or palm heel strikes or hammer fists. I would like to try to put these into contact. So here we are, sure to have hands up. Now hammer fist may be on here inside, he is coming in, stepping forward and I am going to just drop my hand just forward into his face as he comes in boom, just dropping forward and when I come forward here I drop my weight here, boom straight across right up the middle. You always want to go and split the guard, split the body in half, aiming for the target here, points of contact should be to the bridges of the nose. Point of contact, if I am going for the bridge, may be he slips to the side, I catch his clavicle. If I hit hard enough I can break the clavicle, rendering this arm useless right here, he will just fall. He will not be able to use it, that is another point right here, coming straight up, may be after a groin kick from there. May be after a groin kick here he comes down forward, have a fist right to the back of the neck or to the skull right here, dropping them, come back up. So again from here boom! right to the face aiming to the center point here, coming straight across to the center point again. "
