The key to understanding beginning soccer is also understanding the field that you're playing on. The field is usually at least 120 yards long and each end where the goal sits are what we call end lines and then they're also going along the sides are the side lines. You'll see mid field through the middle and then on each end of the field it's called the 18 or the penalty area, it's the larger box down toward the goal. The second area is called the 6 or the goal area. All of this makes up the soccer field. A couple of things to understand is if you're on the side lines, as you're playing if the ball is played out of bounce anywhere along the side lines that's when we do the throw in that we talked about. Where you throw the ball in. With the defense if you play the ball out of bounce at one of the end lines if the defense plays it out, the offense gets what's called a corner kick where the ball is played in one of the two corners. If the ball is played out by the offense it's called a goal kick and the defense kicks it out from the 6.
