"Hi this is Tim Gardener on ExpertVillage.com; we’re going to be going over some advanced techniques in football. Okay we’re talking about kick return and punt return right now; there are three major factors you need to remember. One is always keep your eye on the ball, you know you’ve got a lot of defenders coming at you, but if you don’t catch the ball first, you’ve got a major problem. The next thing is to always stay up under the ball, you never want to be too far back, you don’t want to feel like the ball is going to end up behind you, and you want to stay directly up under it. And then the last most important thing where most people make a mistake of is you’ve got to keep your elbows together. Okay you’ve got a ball coming down with a lot of velocity, it’s flipping, it’s making a lot of changes, you’ve got to create a trap for the ball and if your elbows are apart, that’s not a trap. So if your hands fail you, the ball is falling through right here. So you want to create a trap for which if your hands, if you’ve got a little bounce between your hands and your shoulder pad, you’ve got a trap with your elbows where you’re still going to have it here. and if you get hit while you’re catching the ball like you can on punts sometimes, since there’s no more halo rule, then you want the ball to be trapped in there to where you get hit and the ball stays with you as opposed to being here and it’s able to pop out of the bottom.
