Fencing Equipment in Fencing

"Hi, this is Tim Weske on behalf of ExpertVillage.com. And in this clip, we're going to be discussing some of the equipment need you will have when you fence. If you would like to see more information about this, look at SwordPlayLA.com. Well, we've described the mask. These are some of the other items, a jacket. You can get heavier jackets made of cotton. Or, you can get them lighter with a nylon type of material. Some, it's just all, what people like and what they don't like. Some of these, the jacket, should be able to Velcro or go all the way up to the neck so the bib and the high collar protect again the area of the throat right here. Then, come down, there's a lot of these with zippers. This particular one is a zipper jacket. There are also ones with Velcro or other ways to keep them together. The glove or the gauntlet is a glove that comes out to the outside of the jacket so that it covers this area of flesh where foil point or epee point or saber point could go directly up the jacket. Also, the cord, there's a little opening in it, so that the cord for the electric stuff comes out. And these can be Velcro'd so that when we're fighting here nothing is going to go up your sleeve. Protective pants, called knickers, they are adjusted up on the belt area. Also, as you can see there is an adjustment down here, so you can bring them like some baseball players, you know they have their pants down here, other ones have the, come up to the knee. These can be adjusted that way or depending on the size of the leg of the person. For fencing shoes, unfortunately, you just can't find them in a store anywhere. But, fencing shoes are made very light . In the back right here on the heels, there's a lot of extra padding because you're doing a lot of the movement with lunging on your heels and advancing and retreating very quickly. They're extremely light shoes, but they have a lot of rubber on the bottom. So, for the men, there's this little item right here. They'll put that over their chest right there. As you can see, it's sort of flatter. There's the ladies' also which has the rounder areas on it. And, then for women that want to be light weight you've just got the little breast protectors like this which generally pockets sewn inside of the jacket and they just fit right in there just nice and snug like that.
