"A great variation of the smith grind is to bring it to a transition and do a fakie smith grind stall. This is a fun variation of the smith grind because it's a way that you can stall the grind and not actually grind but just hold the position and then come back in. It's a fun version because for one second you stand and you're stationary and then you roll back in. You almost pose the maneuver and then you cruise back in. What you're going to want to do is travel, up to the coping, rolling fakie, just before you get to the coping, you're going to throw, your board, into a fakie front side smith stall. What this means is, you're going to hold your truck, just like this. At this time you're going to hold your weight on your back truck and keep your front foot, without really putting any weight on it, but just guiding it to put it in a stationary position and then you're going to come back in and roll down the coping. Some of the tricks that you're going to be able to have to be able to do, before doing the fakie smith stall, is you're going to have to be comfortable rolling on a transition and able to get up to the coping and able to get into the position. The more better you are at rolling back and forth, on a mini ramp, the better equipped you'll be. This is a great variation of the smith's grind because the smith stall is a way that you can feel it and just get used to the position and be able to pop out and roll away. That's how you do a fakie smith stall."
