"The foot placement required for the front side smith grind is going to be very similar to the foot positioning to get into a front side fifty-fifty. The only difference really with the foot placement, is that now your front foot, while smith grinding, is going to have to be suspended in a position where you don't put almost any weight on it. So imagine, once you get into the front side smith grind position, all your weight is pushing with the back foot, and your front foot actually just wants to sit there to guide the board in the right direction, but it's actually not going to do anything as far as putting weight on the board. It actually may end up sideways because the board is so pointed down, and just keep your foot in that position until it's time to come out. When it's time to come out, you put weight on your toe now, which should be just hanging over the top of the truck, or the corner of the truck on the top side of the ledge, and this is going to be where your main pressure is put to get the smith grind out and away from the ledge. At that time that's when your front foot should be ready to go from this position to an actual ollie position. So it's going to go from pointing down, to pointing straight and coming up, and dragging your foot and rolling away. That's the proper foot position for a front side smith grind."
