Video Transcript

"Hello! My name is Sid Nelson, master instructor in Martial Arts. I'm representing expertvillage.com. The third stance and that you will learn in class is a back stance. What you want to do is start off with your feet in a L position. One heel placed next to the other. In length, we want to step out about 2 1/2-3 foot steps forward. 2 1/2. Also, we want to bring our shoulders in line with our heels so that we are turned in a sideways position. Now at this point, we want to put most of our weight on the back leg; hence the name back stance. I'm going to lean back. About 70% of our weight will be lying on the back leg. This again, you will not be able to your toes once this knee is bent in the proper position. We want to put the remaining 30% of the weight on the front knee and then again, position our weight over our legs so we can emphasis the correct precision and balance of this stance. The back stance will help your free up your front leg to kick or maneuver quickly. Again, stay sideways as possible. You want to be able to hold your stances and exercise for approximately 30 seconds to a minute."
